BRWD approves $4M bid for Southport water main project
Boothbay Region Water District (BRWD) trustees unanimously agreed July 8 to accept a $4,307,000 bid from Hagar Enterprises for the construction of the district's Hendricks Hill Road water main replacement project. As previously reported in the Register, the work will convert 8,000 feet of seasonal water main along Hendricks Hill Road in Southport to a buried year-round main.
In other business, General Manager Weston Alley said the water flow from the past week reached 975,000 gallons a day, compared to last year’s average of 914,000 gallons a day. The district also reached a million gallons “sooner than usual” this year due to the extreme heat on June 25.
Resources Program Manager Rebecca Jacobs is testing the PFAS levels in the mulch used at Clifford Park and taking water samples from the surrounding area to ensure there is no watershed contamination. She will also be checking in to confirm that herbicides are still not being used on Boothbay Common.
