The Spofford Lane folks will be hosting the Sept. 16 potluck at the hall starting at 5:30 p.m. They would like you to bring a main or side dish, salad or a desert. As always, you are welcome to bring you own beverage. There will be water available. Questions? Contact Bill at wfbutterfield@roadrunner.com. There will be a short after-dinner game. No need to study.

In case you missed it, BICA’s annual picnic was held Aug. 22 at the hall. The Barters Island Men’s Grill Team provided perfectly cooked hamburgers and cheeseburgers and delicious hot dogs—always a treat. There were lots of delicious side dishes as well. This year’s picnic included an ice cream social with not just ice cream but whipped topping and sauces. The grill team of Alan, Bill x2 and Bruce along with go-fers Judy and Ken did a terrific job with the main course and a big thank you to Tom, Judy and Marsha, the ice cream servers.  And an extra thank you to the set up folks of Kim, Brenda, Irena and Les who had to move everything that was outside back inside due to an untimely shower. It seemed that at least half of the 50-plus folks attending, were helping in some way. Good to see folks stepping up.

Tickets for the lobster raffle tickets were available up until about five minutes before the drawing. And a big surprise—two additional raffle items were available. An Orrefors bowl ended up being auctioned off with Carol having the winning bid. Thank you Carol. Next up was the Hannaford gift card. Who doesn’t want one of those? Ryan drew the winning ticket which belonged to Paul. Happy shopping Paul. The last two items were batches of 12 lobsters and those went to Brenda and Jo. This year all winners were present and Barters Island residents. Thank you Laura and Bucky for taking care of the raffle again this year.

The October Halloween potluck is always great fun and it is not too soon to start thinking about your costume or your special hat. There are amazing prizes handed out in various categories, so it is worth the effort. Oct. 21 will be here before you know it.
