All Saints by-the-Sea dual celebration
Please join the All Saints by-the-Sea community on Sunday, Aug. 23 for a celebration marking the 120th season of worship in our historic chapel. A special reception will be held following the 10 a.m. service.
The chapel was constructed in 1905 and consecrated by Bishop Robert Codman in July 1906. The first recorded service of the community prior to the chapel being built goes back even further to Aug. 29, 1873. The Rev. John T. McGrath, Rector of the Episcopal church in Gardiner, Maine was instrumental in founding and leading the church in its early years. The chapel’s location and water access have endeared it to many and have made it an important part of the region’s summer life. Families through many generations continue to return to worship and to celebrate baptisms, weddings, and memorial services in this sacred space.
The chapel has been blessed with outstanding visiting clergy from all over the country over these many years. The Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith, Retired Bishop of Newark, New Jersey marks his 20th year of service this summer. We will celebrate his dedication to the All Saints community and the spiritual guidance he has faithfully provided.
The chapel is located on Southport Island about two miles south on Route 238. All Saints Road is on the left marked by an Episcopal Church sign. Limited handicapped parking is available in the chapel parking lot and along Route 238.
