It’s coming!
Winter will arrive shortly bringing ice and snow to the area and Boothbay Area Sand for Seniors (BASS Project) is back offering free buckets of sand. This program’s goal is to supply sand for icy driveways and walkways to area seniors who cannot facilitate acquiring the sand needed to combat the icy surfaces around their residences.
The towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport allow each residence to go to their local Department of Public Works and fill two buckets with sand each year. Some seniors and area residents are unable to lift or transport the sand to their homes. The BASS Project is designed to facilitate the delivering of free sand to these residents.
The project’s goal is to increase winter safety for area resident to prevent slipping and falling in snowy or icy conditions. Spreading sand can be a proactive measure to help reduce falls and injuries. The sand can be used by the residents to spread on stairs, walkways and driveways to prevent debilitating or life threatening falls and make it safer for these individuals to remain in their homes.
If you know someone or have a family member who would benefit from the project, please contact the BASS Project at bassproject2024@gmail.com or calling and leaving a message at 207-315-6183. We will be happy to deliver. If you would like to assist with this project please contact us at the email or number above.
